Whiterock Conservancy

Whiterock Conservancy is a 5,500 acre non-profit land trust that balances sustainable agriculture, natural resource protection and public recreation on the landscape. Located near Coon Rapids, Iowa along seven miles of the Middle Raccoon River valley, we are open to the public every day for recreation and exploration.

In 2016, Whiterock Conservancy completed a trail expansion and recreational facilities improvement project. Over 40 miles of trail wind through prairie, oak savanna, forest, pastures and row crop agriculture. The trails were designed to accommodate the needs of many users. Mountain bikers enjoy sixteen miles of single track trails as well as nearly 20 miles of double track trails. Equestrians have six miles of trail not open to bikes as well as sharing the nearly 20 miles of double track trails. Hikers, runners and walkers can enjoy any of the trails, from a gentile stroll along the river to a cardio workout climbing the hills. A few times a year Whiterock hosts events for ATV/UTVs to tour the property and catch some of the best views in the valley. The trail system is completed by having canoe and kayak floats through Whiterock on the Middle Raccoon River.

Other opportunities for outdoor education and adventure on the property include twelve ponds open for public fishing and three campgrounds available for tent or RV camping. The Star Field provides excellent night sky views. Conservation efforts to protect prairie and savanna habitat have created diverse ecosystems that support some of the most threatened species in the state. Whiterock is also a favorite for bird enthusiasts to visit.

For those wanting a little less adventure, Whiterock has six farm houses available to rent, some by the room. Educational programs are organized throughout the year as well.
